Lauded by local Labor Leaders as an “advocate for sustaining Western New York jobs” and “for putting people to work,” as well as being “honest and forthright, a ‘high-caliber individual with ‘brains and honor’ who ‘knows how to bargain,’” South Buffalo native George Harrigan – who serves as Principal Officer of Teamsters Local 449 and President of the 12,000-Member Teamsters Western New York Joint Council #46, is the Grand Marshall of the 2016 Buffalo AFL-CIO Council Labor Day Parade.
Harrigan was formally sashed last week during a ceremony held by the Buffalo AFL-CIO Central Labor Council and the Western New York AFL-CIO Area Labor Federation (WNYALF) at the Irish Center in South Buffalo. The Labor Day Parade Kicks Off at 12 Noon on Monday, September 5th, beginning at the Irish Center on Abbott Road and continuing down Abbott into Cazenovia Park, via Cazenovia Street, where a massive Labor Picnic will be held.
“George is an ‘advocate of sustaining’ Western New York jobs and ‘putting people back to work,’” said Buffalo AFL-CIO Council President John Mudie (Pictured with Mudie, on the left, after just having sashed Harrigan), who told those in attendance that he and Harrigan “go back fifty years,” having grown up together in the same South Buffalo neighborhood.
